I think I had pointed this out on our previous website as well. Freezing your credit at all three of the major credit agencies is essential to protect yourself from fraud:

As the article points out, though, it is not sufficient–you can still be scammed by someone posing as e.g. a bank official, a Social Security employee, etc.
